A 30 yard is the same twenty-two feet long as a 20 yard but roughly six feet tall, giving you nine to twelve pickup loads of capacity on the same driveway footprint. It is the container for jobs where volume, not weight, is the constraint.

  • Capacity30 cubic yards
  • Footprint22 ft x 8 ft x 6 ft
  • Weight allowance4 – 5 tons
  • Holds about~9 – 12 pickup truck loads

Why people choose the 30 yard

Bulky-and-light material is where it earns its money: framing offcuts, packaging, insulation, furniture, brush and household contents.

It is the standard container for whole-house and estate cleanouts, new construction framing phases, and commercial fit-outs.

It is the wrong container for anything heavy. Concrete, brick, dirt and shingles will exceed transport weight long before you fill it. Those go in a 10 yard heavy can.

Good fit for

  • Whole-house and estate cleanouts
  • New construction framing phase
  • Large additions and multi-room gut renovations
  • Commercial fit-outs and office clear-outs
  • Storm brush and large yard debris volumes
  • Self-storage and warehouse clear-outs
  • Multi-unit tenant turnover
  • Hoarding and heavy-accumulation clean-ups

Not the right size for

  • Concrete, brick, block and masonry
  • Dirt, clay and excavation spoil
  • Roof tear-offs of any real size
  • Tile and stone in volume

Will it fit?

Same footprint as a 20 yard — about 22 feet long by 8 feet wide — but taller. Needs roughly 60 feet of straight approach and about 23 feet of overhead clearance, which matters more with the taller box.

Before delivery, move cars and bins, mark irrigation heads and septic lids, and tell us about new concrete, soft ground, a steep grade or low power lines. Our delivery and driveway protection guide covers all of it.

30 Yard Dumpster FAQs

Is a 30 yard too big for a house cleanout?

Rarely. A three-bedroom house of average contents fills a 30 comfortably, and a house where somebody lived for decades can need two. The higher walls are the only real drawback — you will be lifting things over a six-foot side, so plan to load heavy items first while there is still room to walk in through the door end.

Why can't I put concrete or shingles in a 30 yard?

Weight. Both are dense enough that you would exceed legal transport limits well before the container was full, and an overweight container cannot leave your driveway. Concrete goes in a 10 yard heavy can, and roof tear-offs generally want a 15 or 20.

Does a 30 yard need more space than a 20?

Not on the ground — same length and width. What it needs is more overhead clearance, because the hoist has to lift a taller box. Watch for low service drops, tree limbs and garage-door trim on the approach.

Can I swap a 30 yard mid-job?

Yes, and on large cleanouts and construction jobs that is the normal pattern. We pull the full one and drop an empty, usually next day and often same day if you call early. Account customers get priority.

Is one 30 cheaper than two 20s?

For bulky light material, generally yes on a cost-per-cubic-yard basis. For anything with weight in it, two 20 yard loads with swaps is often cheaper, because you never risk an overweight load that has to be partly unloaded before it can move.
