A 10 yard container is about twelve feet long and roughly three and a half feet tall. It fits on any driveway, including the short ones on older Mooresville streets, and its low walls mean you can pitch heavy material in by hand without a machine.

  • Capacity10 cubic yards
  • Footprint12 ft x 8 ft x 3.5 ft
  • Weight allowance2 – 3 tons
  • Holds about~3 pickup truck loads

Why people choose the 10 yard

It exists primarily for weight, not volume. A cubic yard of broken concrete weighs roughly a ton, so ten cubic yards is already close to the legal transport limit for a loaded truck.

It is also the right answer for small, dense jobs: a bathroom gut with a mortar-bed tile floor, a chimney removal, a patio break-out, or the spoil from a small excavation.

If your job is bulky household junk rather than heavy material, this is the wrong size — look at the 15 yard or 20 yard instead.

Good fit for

  • Broken concrete, driveway and patio slab
  • Brick, block and masonry rubble
  • Ceramic and stone tile, including mortar bed
  • Dirt, soil and Piedmont red clay spoil
  • Asphalt and millings
  • Small bathroom gut jobs
  • Chimney and retaining wall removal
  • Gravel and stone

Not the right size for

  • Whole-house cleanouts
  • Furniture-heavy junk removal
  • Framing offcuts and bulky construction debris
  • Large roof tear-offs
  • Brush and yard debris in volume

Will it fit?

Fits comfortably in a single-car driveway. Needs about 12 feet of length, 8 feet of width and roughly 60 feet of clear straight approach for the truck.

Before delivery, move cars and bins, mark irrigation heads and septic lids, and tell us about new concrete, soft ground, a steep grade or low power lines. Our delivery and driveway protection guide covers all of it.

10 Yard Dumpster FAQs

How much can a 10 yard dumpster actually hold?

About three pickup truck loads by volume, with a weight allowance in the two to three ton range. For heavy material the weight is what runs out first — you will often reach the tonnage limit with the container only two-thirds full, which is exactly what it is designed for.

Why is the 10 yard recommended for a big concrete job?

Because a full 20 yard of concrete would weigh around twenty tons, which no roll-off truck can legally lift or transport. Multiple 10 yard loads are the only workable approach. It looks counterintuitive until you do the arithmetic.

Will a 10 yard fit in a short driveway?

Almost always. At about twelve feet it is shorter than most cars, so even the tight driveways on older Mooresville streets and lake cottages take one without difficulty. The truck still needs clear straight approach and overhead clearance.

Can I put general junk in a 10 yard?

You can, but it is rarely economical. Ten cubic yards of household contents is about three pickup loads, which most cleanouts exceed on the first afternoon. Unless the job is genuinely small, a 15 or 20 yard costs less per cubic yard.

Is dirt priced the same as concrete?

Not usually. Clean concrete and masonry are recyclable as aggregate and often go to a facility at a lower rate. Soil is generally handled differently and mixing the two pushes the whole load into the more expensive category. Tell us what you have and we will split it sensibly.
