The middle ground
15 Yard Dumpster Rental in Mooresville, NC
The size most single-room projects should be booking. Big enough for a bathroom gut, a garage purge or a 20-square roof tear-off, small enough to sit neatly on a normal driveway.
A 15 yard is about sixteen feet long and four feet tall — roughly the footprint of a mid-size car with a bit to spare. It holds four to five pickup loads and it is the size we recommend more often than any other for a single-project job.
- Capacity15 cubic yards
- Footprint16 ft x 8 ft x 4 ft
- Weight allowance2 – 3 tons
- Holds about~4 – 5 pickup truck loads
Why people choose the 15 yard
It is the sweet spot for anything that is one room, one roof or one garage. Big enough that you are not squeezing, small enough that you are not paying for air.
It is also our most popular roofing container. Up to about twenty squares of single-layer architectural shingle sits comfortably inside its weight allowance.
If you are doing a whole house or a multi-room renovation, step up to the 20 yard — the cost difference is smaller than the cost of a second haul.
Good fit for
- Single-room remodels and bathroom guts
- Roof tear-offs up to about 20 squares
- Two-car garage cleanouts
- Basement and attic clear-outs
- Deck and small shed removal
- Flooring tear-outs
- Landscape and hardscape renovation
- Small commercial fit-out debris
Not the right size for
- Whole-house estate cleanouts
- New construction framing phase
- Large concrete or masonry volumes
- Multi-layer roof tear-offs over 20 squares
Will it fit?
Sits comfortably on a two-car driveway with room to walk around it. Needs about 16 feet of length, 8 feet of width, roughly 60 feet of approach and 23 feet of overhead clearance.
Before delivery, move cars and bins, mark irrigation heads and septic lids, and tell us about new concrete, soft ground, a steep grade or low power lines. Our delivery and driveway protection guide covers all of it.

Is a 15 yard big enough for a bathroom renovation?
For a standard bathroom, comfortably. Vanity, tub, tile, drywall and subfloor all fit with room left over. The thing to watch is tile on a mortar bed, which is dense enough to matter — mention it when you book so we set the weight allowance correctly.
How many roofing squares fit in a 15 yard?
Roughly twenty squares of single-layer architectural shingle, or a bit more of lighter three-tab. A second layer roughly doubles the weight, so a 20-square two-layer roof needs the next size up or a swap. Our roofing sizing guide has the full maths.
Should I get a 15 or a 20?
If you are hesitating, take the 20. The price difference between the two is modest and far smaller than the cost of a second delivery, and almost nobody has ever regretted having a little extra room. Take the 15 when you are confident the job is genuinely one room.
Can I load it above the rail if it is only light material?
No. Level with the top rail regardless of what is in it. An overfilled container cannot be legally tarped and transported, so we cannot collect it until it is levelled, which usually means you moving material at the worst possible time.
Will a 15 yard fit on my driveway?
On virtually any two-car driveway, yes. On a tight lakefront or older in-town driveway it usually still works but tell us about the shape, the grade and any low branches or service drops so the driver can plan the drop.
