Heavy inert material follows completely different rules to everything else in a container. It is priced by weight rather than volume, it goes to a different facility, and it needs a purpose-built container with low walls so you can actually load it without a machine.

Around here that matters more than most places, because Piedmont red clay is dense and it is everywhere. A container of wet clay spoil weighs vastly more than the same volume of renovation debris, and people are consistently surprised by it.

The rule we give every customer: if you can only lift it with two hands or a machine, it belongs in a heavy can, not the mixed container.

Material that belongs in a heavy container

Broken concrete and slab

Driveways, patios, walkways, footings and equipment pads. Almost entirely recyclable as aggregate.

Brick and block

Chimney removals, retaining walls, foundation work. Clean brick is often recoverable.

Asphalt

Driveway removal and millings. Recyclable and worth keeping clean.

Ceramic and stone tile

Especially mortar-bed installs, which double the weight of what looks like a small floor.

Dirt, soil and Piedmont clay

Excavation spoil, grading, pool fill-in. The single heaviest material we handle.

Gravel and stone

Driveway rebuilds and drainage work.

Mortar, grout and stucco

Small volumes but very dense.

Mixed masonry rubble

Demolition of walls, steps, chimneys and hardscape.

Why we send a 10 yard for a big job

It looks wrong the first time. You have a full driveway to break out and we deliver a container barely twelve feet long. The reason is simple physics: a cubic yard of broken concrete runs roughly 2,000 to 2,400 pounds, and a cubic yard of wet clay can be heavier still. Fill a 20 yard with either and you are looking at twenty tons in a container that no truck can legally lift or transport. The 10 yard has low walls so you can pitch material in by hand, a reinforced build, and a capacity that stops you before you create a container nobody can move.

Keeping the load clean saves you money

Clean concrete, brick and block are recyclable. Crushed and screened, they become aggregate for road base and fill, and facilities that accept clean inert material charge less than mixed C&D disposal. Contaminate that load with wood, plastic, rebar-heavy sections, trash or dirt and it becomes mixed debris at a higher rate. If you can keep the concrete separate from the timber and the trash, do — it is genuinely worth the extra ten minutes of sorting.

Concrete & Heavy Debris FAQs

Why can't I just put concrete in a 20 yard?

Because the container would exceed legal transport weight long before it was full. A cubic yard of broken concrete is roughly a ton. Twenty cubic yards is twenty tons, which no roll-off truck can lift or legally carry. A 10 yard heavy container is sized so a full load is still transportable.

How is heavy debris priced?

By weight rather than by volume, at the rate the receiving facility charges for inert material. We will explain the tonnage and the rate before delivery so there is nothing to discover afterwards. Keeping the load clean and free of trash keeps it in the cheaper category.

Can I mix dirt with concrete?

Better not to. Clean concrete and masonry are recyclable as aggregate; dirt contaminates that and pushes the load into a different, more expensive category. If you have both, tell us the volumes and we will work out whether two containers or one mixed load is cheaper for you.

Do you take asphalt from a driveway removal?

Yes. Asphalt is recyclable and we would rather keep it clean and separate. Millings and broken asphalt both go in a heavy container.

What about dirt from a pool fill-in or excavation?

We handle it, but talk to us about volumes first. Excavation spoil is the heaviest material we deal with, particularly wet Piedmont clay, and a large excavation usually needs several containers or a different haulage approach entirely. We will tell you straight if a roll-off is the wrong tool.
